Workshop Information Sheet

Before you start upholstery sessions:

Choose your project- start simple with either a dining chair or footstool. We have footstool frames you can buy and a limited number of period dining chairs in need of renovation.

Think about what fabric you would like to cover your project with,  although it isn’t necessary to have your fabric before you start. We can help advise on the sort of fabric suitable for your project and have plenty of samples that will help you choose.

We need to see all projects before they are stripped down, and ask that you take lots of photos for reference.

At your first class:

Come prepared to get a little dirty! We suggest you wear old clothes and protective footwear. We also suggest you wear layers - as the workshop may be a little chilly in winter.

You may also find it helpful to have a camera and notebook so that you can record details and the progress of your project.

We will ask you to supply an emergency contact telephone number and details of any medical conditions that may be relevant i.e. asthma, diabetes etc. - anything where you may need us to act on your behalf while in the workshop.

Materials and stuffings:

We are able to provide all the materials and stuffings needed to complete your project (if foam is needed it will be ordered to your required dimensions). A record of what you use is recorded and I will bill you either at the completion of your project or periodically throughout the course of your work.

Refreshments:

Drinks and biscuits are provided during each session. Please let me know in advance if you have any particular requirements.

Storage:

At present we are unable to store any students' work, although that may change in the future.

Payment:

Each three hour session costs £60.00 and is paid monthly in advance. If you have to cancel your session with less than three days’ notice you will be charged the full cost. An alternative class will be offered if possible.

We are able to take card payment in the workshop, cash or BACs by arrangement

You can contact Mary either by email or WhatsApp.

Dogs:

We have two very well behaved dogs in the workshop; rescue Lurchers called Pip and Roah. Please let me know if you are uneasy with dogs and I will ensure they do not approach you.

Health and safety:

Upholstery is generally a low risk activity; with common sense and mutual cooperation injuries and accidents should be kept to a minimum. Please read our Health and Safety policy.

We look forward to meeting you and introducing you to

the love of upholstery
